Travelling the Rails....

Today began early and ended late as we rode the rails from Florence to Levanto and the Hotel Garden B&B. With our backpacks on our backs, we must have looked like vagabonds moving from one gypsy camp to another! We stopped at every village and were sometimes 'standing room only' on the local train from LaSpezia through the mountain tunnels and along the Mediterranean coast.

Our B&B is a three bedroom, two bath apartment with marble floors, two balconies and a washer, but no dryer. (Dryers must be considered a luxury since most balconies, including one of ours, includes a clothesline - and clothes flapping in the breeze. ) The breakfast offering is the best that we've had, but we're back to non-absorbent towels, and the apartment has no A/C. If you can stand the noise, you only have to open the doors and Mother Nature does a great job.

The L/R balcony provides a fantastic view of the Ligurian Sea (an arm of the Mediterranean).

Late yesterday, we toured the villages of Vernazza and Monterosso where we ate dinner on a patio facing the Ligurian (or Mediterranean) Sea overlooking a German bunker from World War II. We were surrounded by tables of other Americans from D. C. , St. Louis and Arizona - all going in different directions.

Ciao!!

Sarah
