Today (Thursday) we took a boat ride from the harbor in Sorrento to the Island of Capri (Cap-ry). Capri, said to have been the hideaway of Roman Emperors, is another mountain that seems to rise out of the sea - surrounded on one side by the Gulf of Naples and on the other by the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is filled with tourist and souvenir shops and is an expensive “tourist trap”. The only way to reach the island is by water.

Once we landed at Capri, we boarded another boat for a 2 hour tour around the island. The boat stopped at the ‘Blue Grotto’, an underwater cave accessible only by boat, for those that wanted to view the attraction. To get into the cave, one had to get into small boats that held only 4 or 5 individuals and an oarsman. As the boat entered the cave, everyone (including the oarsman) had to lie back flat in the boat. (Not only do I not like high places - I don’t like tight places and I don’t swim - so you don’t have to ask if I went.)

I think we would all agree that one of the best parts of the day was the fact that we were finally able to get an order of French Fries. Sometimes, it’s just the little things…..

There were several flights of stairs to get down to the harbor.

Three rocks, off the coast of Capri - note the hole in the middle rock. Our boat passed through this "Lover's Hole".

Legend says that - if you kiss your lover while going through the rock you will be in love forever.
