Field of Miracles - Pisa

The "Field of Miracles" is comprised of several buildings; the Duomo (Cathedral), the Baptistry and the Leaning Tower (one of the 7th Wonders of the World).

The Duomo, a medieval cathedral started in 1063, is made of gray marble and white stone. As in many of the churches in Italy, there are tombs within the church - either in the floor or along the walls.

The Tower was built between 1173 and the end of the 14th century. Completion was delayed because it began to lean almost immediately, and efforts were made to reach a solution. In recent years, progress has been made and it leans "less" than it did a few years ago.

The Baptistry, begun in 1163 is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. This building has astounding accoustics and every half-hour one of the guards sings and harmonizes with their echo. The Baptistry is the largest in Italy and is taller than the Leaning Tower because of the Statue of St. John, on top. The building has also begun to lean.
