More photos of Amsterdam

Posted today (Friday, July 24, 2009)

Tomorrow morning, we are taking a trip into the countryside of Holland to view some of the few remaining "working" windmills. Of the hundreds that were once in this area, only 8 still remain.

Once again, everyone has gone to bed and left me to the solitude of my computer. It's 10:00 p.m., but still daylight (see last photo) - how can one go to bed??

We left home three weeks ago today. How much we have seen in these three weeks, and how many different languages, customs and cultures we have encountered. How much we have learned - and most important (to me) has been that a smile and "thank you" - no matter what the language will break many barriers.

In Italy - it was a smile and "Gracias". In France, it was a smile and "Merci". I just can't master the Dutch word for "thank you" ......so mine has to suffice!

Enjoy more of our photos - and good night to my wonderful (and very much missed) family and friends back in our country. (Can you tell that I'm beginning to get homesick?)

Two of the bridges over the canals.
A stationary house boat - they must remain anchored.

Tour boat about to go under the bridge - note there's very little room between the top of the boat and the bottom of the bridge.
Another view of the canal.
