Moving on...

Tomorrow a.m. we leave the sites of Florence and move to the Cinque (Chink-wah) Terre region of Italy.

The Cinque Terre is comprised of five villages that hang haphazzardly to steep cliffs high above the Mediterranean on the Italian Riviera. They are connected by a hiking trail that runs among vineyards, olive and lemon groves, and through lush forests.

The Blue Trail follows the coast line and is approximately 8 miles in length and takes about 5 hours to hike from the first village of Riomaggiore to the last village of Monterosso. The Red Trail sits atop the ridge and takes 9 - 12 hours to complete. This trail is not maintained as well, but the views of the ocean and the villages is said to be breathtaking.

The trail has been designated as an Italian National Park. At any point along either trail, the hiker can go into the nearest village and catch the local train that connects the villages.

Stay tuned to find out who hikes ....and who rides (the train).
