The inlaid marble mosaic floor is said to be one of the most ornate in Italy. There are 56 panels in different sizes - most are rectangular, but some are hexagons. The entire floor is uncovered for a period of about six weeks each year. The remainder of the year, only a few are left uncovered and visible to the public.

The Cathedral of Siena (Duomo) was begun in 1226 and holds works of art by Donnatello, Bernini and Michelangelo.

The Plaza del Campo is the primary public area in Siena. The sloping area is divided into 9 pie shape sections and was paved with red brick in 1349. Twice each year, the brick around the top is covered with dirt and horse races are held. Thousands of spectators gather in the sloping arena to watch the horses run three laps around the piazza.

Blue Plate Special!! This must be an American.

The Church of San Pietro di Magione built before the year 1000 - is small but beautiful. Even the small Italian churches have ornate paintings and sculptures.
