Saturday was a day of goodbyes. We said goodbye to our two NC family members (they aren’t old like us - so work still beckons) as well as to Italy.
Mike and Genann had taken us to some marvelous places, shown us sites and given us details that we would not have had, otherwise. We had also explored new areas together and had made so many good memories - we were sad to see them leave us, and a little nervous about being left on our own.
As they turned homeward to the U.S., we continued on our journey with France, Germany, Austria and Amsterdam in our future. We had learned just enough Italian to "get by" and now we had to focus on another new language. We've also discovered that using the hands and gesturing works almost as well as trying to make them understand us.
